The Technique of "Stamping Over"

When "Stamping Over," it's crucial to understand the Elements of Design. This knowledge will guide you in creating a card that is not only visually appealing but also well-balanced. 

• Value: Use ink colors with light, medium, and dark hues. Taking a black-and-white picture of a sample stamped cardstock can help you determine the value of the colors. 
• Color: Select a color scheme as a guideline for combining inks. The 2024-2045 Annual Catalog's color wheel is a helpful tool. 
• Line: While "Stamping Over," it is helpful to think about straight, diagonal, and circular patterns. Following the line element of design while stamping directs the eye to the images. 
• Space: Remember that the stamping over technique needs positive space - areas without stamped images. An overly crowded design isn't pleasing to the eye. 
• Shape: The shape can be organic, such as flowers, trees, animals, or other natural shapes. My favorite shape is geometric and angular in design. The third shape is abstract.
• Form: How a stamped image occupies a space refers to the form. One technique to create a 3D effect is to attach Dimensionals. Another idea is to color the image with Stampin' Blends in light and dark colors to give the appearance of shadowing and change the form. 
• Texture: How the paper feels or looks will create visual appeal. Two ideas for adding texture are using stamps with a textured design or embossing the final product.

What are some tips for designing a sympathy card with simplicity in mind?

Heartfelt Sympathy Card

When it comes to creating a heartfelt sympathy card, simplicity is key. Embossing with Layered Florals adds a touch of texture, while neutral solid colors like very vanilla, basic black, and pecan pie create a soothing aesthetic. A dotted border on a Heartfelt Hexagon punched sentiment outlines the wording. Finish the label with a ribbon tied with Linen Thread and place three metallic sequins on the front for a card that speaks volumes in simplicity. Remember, sometimes less is truly more.
